WELS Nurses Association
The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Nurses Association (WELSNA)
aims to educate and support nurses, encouraging them to serve others with Christ-centered care. It is affiliated with the Commission on Special Ministries of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS.) At this time our pastoral advisor is Reverend James Behringer.
Any active WELS or Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) member in the nursing profession may become a member of the WELS Nurses Association. The nursing profession is defined as RN or LPN. Student Nurses are also welcome to become members. At this time there are no membership dues. A nurse simply completes the online membership form found on this website.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO WELSNA GUIDELINES
The WELSNA Council is recommending changes to the WELSNA Guidelines. The rationale for the change is to make the committment to be Coordinator-Elect followed by Coordinator a shorter and possibly less intimidating committment. CLICK to see the proposed changes. Discussion and voting regarding these changes will take place at the annual meeting on April 27, 2019.
AN ELECTION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND MEETING
There are several offices open for election at the WELSNA Spring Conference. They include Treasurer (2 year term), Coordinator-Elect (1 year term followed by a 2 year term as Coordinator if WELSNA Guideline changes are approved), and Coordinator (1 year term to complete the second half of a 2 year term). The duties of the offices are listed below:
- Treasurer – The treasurer shall receive and record all donations and other income and coordinate disbursements according to the resolution of the annual convention and the Council. The individual shall perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator or Council. (Note: The treasurer does not have a checkbook. All money deposited and distributed is coordinated by the WELS Special Ministry Administrative Assistant. The treasurer reviews all statements, reports revenues and expenditures to the council, and is the main contact for the WELSNA Wisconsin Lutheran College Nursing Scholarship.)
- Coordinator-elect – The coordinator-elect shall perform the coordinator duties in the absence of the coordinator. The individual shall share in the duties of the coordinator while coordinator-elect as directed by the coordinator. The individual shall assume responsibility for the management of the organization at the conclusion of the coordinator-elect term. The individual shall perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator of Council. (Note: Currently this is a two-year term, followed by a two-year term as coordinator. The WELSNA Council is recommending a change in the Guidelines that would result in this being a one-year position followed by two years as Coordinator for a total of a three year committment.)
- Coordinator – The coordinator shall be responsible for the management of the organization and shall facilitate annual conventions and at meetings of the Council. The individual shall appoint special and standing committees with the Council approval, and shall appoint a Council contact for each standing committee. The individual shall be an ex-officio member of all council and standing committees. The individual shall keep the coordinator-elect fully informed on all matters concerning the organization. (This is a special election for a one-year term.)

If you are interested in serving those who were impacted by the recent hurricane, please consider filling out the volunteer form on Christian Aid and Relief's website.
